I booked the secondary appointment, and they were helpful in fitting me in when it worked for my schedule. After my 15 minute appointment, I was surprised with a new $60 bill for the test. Unfortunately, my extended health benefits only cover one eye appointment so I was forced to pay this second bill out of pocket which was described as being part of their comprehensive eye exam by the eye care team.

I came here with a friend who was getting their eye exam and I waited in the reception area. I did not have an experience with the optometrist themselves but overheard some conversations between the receptionist and another patient which made me question the true intentions of this location. It appeared that they were trying to gouge patients for unnecessary out of pocket expenses.

I highly recommend Optomeyes. Dr. Davidson and the team do an excellent job here. Been coming to west van location for a few years now. Keep up the excellent work, see you all at the next visit.

The optometrist wanted to do an eye dryness test on me during my first visit however due to doing their chosen sequence of other tests which were performed, they were unable to perform the test on the first visit. He suggested for me to come back another day when my eyes were back to normal. This test was presented to be a part of my comprehensive eye appointment and there was no mention of additional or hidden fees. The eye exam was already more expensive than other optometrist offices so there was the assumption that their comprehensive tests would be included.

When looking for an eye care medical office, I was looking for quality and best practice care, which I felt I had when I first came here last month. I was surprised and impressed by the comprehensive level of testing and assessments that they took the time to do in my visit for my full eye exam. Each person I dealt with, including my optometrist, had very good bedside manner, were very knowledgable and descriptive and thorough in explaining any assessment finding. The appointment was about 45 minutes, and they were respective of my appointment time slot.

needed an eye exam and got it recommended from a friend. had a great experience, the doctors take really good care of their patients, and give a precise exam of each eye, with clear explanations on how eyesight works.

Nobody likes going to the eye doctor. It's always been an in and out experience leaving you with no knowledge on what is actually going on with your eyes and how they work. Through a referral I decided to try a visit out with Dr. Davidson. I left with a firm grasp on the condition of my eyes, how they work and the importance of proper eye care. Will definitely be coming back for my next check up. Now if only I can find a dentist of the same calibre.

Overall, the service and quality of the clinic was great, but I also value transparency of appointment expectations. Due to the above points, that situation made me skeptical that this was a 'sales tactic' so my otherwise 5 start review is now a 2 star.

Another patient finished and was settling up their invoice when the receptionist said that they had to buy omega 3 pills and an eye mask that the doctor had prescribed. She said he needed to buy a three month supply of pills and then to come back for more once they were finished. To my surprise, the eye mask was $40 and the omega pills were $60 for a one month bottle. The patient asked why he needed them and the receptionist said that the doctors wrote a prescription for them since they were needed for the maintenance of proper eye health. When asked to have a copy of the prescription to purchase the pills elsewhere and to see if insurance would reimburse the costs as it was doctor prescribed, the receptionist confessed that it was not a real prescription and that it is not covered by extended insurance because it is a supplement. The receptionist then went on to schedule a supplemental appointment with the patient for additional testing. When the patient asked if the costs would be covered by their extended insurance, the receptionist responded that it may or may not be. The patient also asked what the follow up was for and the receptionist responded that they needed to perform supplemental tests to rule out certain eye conditions. When asked why the tests could not be performed the same day, the receptionist responded that the optometrist prefers to test the eyes over multiple visits, which to me appears that they could justify charging fees for each additional appointment. The patient seemed quite disgruntled after leaving and did not buy any supplemental pills or book another appointment.

After my friend came out of the office and went to pay for their invoice, the receptionist recited the identical speech for omega pills and follow up appointments…

Overall, although I did not have firsthand experience with this location, it seemed that they were trying to upsell overpriced supplements, as well as ‘supplemental exams’ which are not medically necessary or covered by insurance meaning that patients may be forced to pay excessive out of pocket expenses. If this location is acting out of bad faith instead of for the well being of their patients, I cannot recommend.
